Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, attacking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
